Mark Taylor, Burnham Parish Councillor said “We are extremely pleased with the progress being made with the construction of the new centre. This new community facility will be a fantastic resource and venue for all sorts of social functions, community events and activities.”

Building Update - March 2010
As you will have noticed, the construction of the new Burnham Park Centre is well under way. The prolonged unusually snowy and wet winter conditions have had an effect on the building work but that is now, hopefully, behind us and the building is rapidly taking shape. The drilling to a depth of 100 metres for the ground source heating pipes took place in the front gardens during some of the worst weather but is now complete and the grass will be made good when the ground has settled. The roof, too, is virtually complete and work on the interior is able to proceed apace without hindrance from adverse weather.

How Ground Source Heating Systems Work
Starting at just one metre below the surface, the earth provides a constant year round heat source. Heat pumps draw up this stored underground energy using ‘collectors’ - lengths of pipe - buried either vertically or horizontally in the ground, ours being vertical. A mixture of water and antifreeze circulates through this ground loop to absorb heat from the ground. This energy is then used to provide environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems.

Ground Source Heating

The savings in running costs from such an innovative system are estimated to show a return on investment within an eight year operating period and provide the new centre with a source of alternative green energy for many years to come.

October 2009
Welcome to the new Burnham Park website. Both the website and the new building are currently under construction and, like the new centre, we will be adding new sections to this website to keep you up to date with progress.Demolition image

Following the Council’s remit to be environmentally friendly, test bore holes were drilled to confirm the sustainability of employing a ground source heating system.

Demolition of the old building began in September and the project is now well underway.
